Unique, fun, delicious and sustainable to boot: here's why Neil Rankin's restaurants are ticking all our boxes.
Spotlight restaurant: temper
Locations: City, Soho and Covent Garden
‘Tempering’ refers to the considered temperatures meat is stored at in order to perfect the taste during the cooking process; a technique used in temper’s inhouse butcheries before it’s barbequed to perfection in their huge fire pits. Yep, folks - the art of meat eating is taken very seriously at Neil Rankin’s three smoky London restaurants. And whether it’s the quality of the ingredients - they source their meat directly from small farms with high welfare practices - or the expert way it’s prepared and cooked, each steak, lamb chop, curry beef skewer, goat carnita and every other wonderfully thought-out dish that arrives at your table will be amongst the most sumptuous and mouth-wateringly delicious you’ve ever tasted.
It would be easy for this barbecue concept to acquire a carnivores-only exclusivity, but temper applies the same standards of ethical sourcing, cooking expertise and creative execution to everything on its menu, from fish and vegetables to cocktails and wine - and, at the Covent Garden restaurant, the UK’s only Detroit style deep dish pizza. Add the cool, smoky setting, theatrical cookery, fun and flawless service and perfectly curated playlist, our local temper (City) has fast become a go-to destination for business lunches, celebratory dinners and butchery masterclasses, which they host monthly on the private mezzanine.
All temper’s menus are easy to enjoy as sharing plates or as individual meals, and while everything we’ve tried hits the spot, we’re obsessed with both the signature Cheeseburger Taco and the Burrata, lime and jalapeño dish- and make sure you leave room for the Cookie, Breten, caramel dessert Is your mouth watering yet? Here’s a good reason to book right now: we’ve teamed up with temper to give you each a free glass of fizz when you dine at temper Soho, temper City or temper Covent Garden until the end of November.
