Delicious Southeast Asian cuisine in London’s West End

Spotlight restaurant: Greyhound Café

Spotlight restaurant: Greyhound Café

Address: 37 Berners street, London, W1T 3LZ

Anyone that’s travelled to Thailand knows it’s a whole other world with its chaos, sights and smells, and whether you got back 15 years ago or last Tuesday, it probably feels like a lifetime ago. Consign to history those fishermen pants you wore to dinner every night - that’s absolutely fine, we encourage it, but if there’s one thing it is perfectly acceptable to bring back with you, it’s an addiction to Thai food.

One of our favourite places in London to load up on tasty Thai dishes is Greyhound Café, and if you’ve yet to discover the Fitzrovia eatery, you’re in for a treat. Descending from a fashion house in Bangkok, it wears its style credentials on its sleeve - all cool art and east-meets-west interiors - but don’t worry: it’s certainly not a case of style over substance. And because it’s our restaurant of the month, you’ll get a free cocktail with your meal for the whole of March.

Greyhound launched its first restaurant in Bangkok in the late 90s, with another 20 or so opening across Southeast Asia since, and introduced its first Europe offering last year at the north end of Oxford Street, mixing the tasty cuisine and bustling vibes of the Thai street food scene with the luxury and comfort of hip London dining.

Taking the principles of traditional Thai cookery and mixing them up with international modern twists, our favourite dishes include the Scallop Pad Thai (a Chanthaburi province version of the classic dish but with plump US scallops) and the Bangkok inspired Chicken Holy Basil Chilli Bomb. We recommend sharing a few small plates too as you’ll want to try everything. You may even wish you’d dug out those stretchy fishermen pants.

As for the cocktails, we’re a big fan of the Chaiyo - that’s Gin, Prosecco, lime, sugar, Thai basil, elderflower and cucumber - or if you like your drinks with a kick, a Phra Kanong People should hit the spot - Tequila, lime, sugar, chilli and coriander.
